Contract Changes - October 2025
NHS England has imposed a new contract on Primary Care (GP Surgeries) from October 1st 2025, as you may have seen in the media.
The extra burden that this places on a GP Surgery, meaning its GPs, nurses and other clinicians, as well as its support staff is sizeable. The changes include extra opening hours and expectations that are not costed, nor reasonable to endure without any further support from Government.
At Willington Medical Group we always have the needs of our patients and community at heart, and have therefore done what we can reasonably absorb by way of keeping our phone lines open longer during the day and providing extra access for patients wherever we can.
However, along with a great many practices in the area and Nationally, we cannot reasonably absorb all of the imposed changes without clarity. In that regard, please see a response from the British Medical Association (BMA) to GP Practices about these changes. This can be found HERE. We therefore await further guidance, pending any negotiations between the BMA and the Government about what the outcome may mean for us.
We will always do our best to provide the best, and safest care for our patients that we can.
